The Niagara County Department of Public Works has announced that four of the county’s parks will open this Friday, May 24, while Oppenheim Park’s opening is delayed until Saturday, June 1.
Niagara County is gearing up to kick off its park season this Friday, May 24, with four parks ready to welcome visitors for the Memorial Day weekend. Burmaster at Bond Lake, West Canal Marina, Krull, and Royalton Ravine parks will officially open their gates from dawn until dusk, offering a variety of recreational activities for residents and tourists alike.
According to DPW Commissioner Garret Meal, the decision to delay the opening of Oppenheim Park by a week was made to ensure the completion of ongoing infrastructure work and to guarantee the safety of park visitors. Meal expressed excitement about the progress at Oppenheim, highlighting the county’s commitment to investing in its parks to provide enjoyable and safe experiences for everyone.
“We have been making significant investments in our parks in recent years,” Meal stated, “and each park offers something unique for visitors to enjoy, from hiking trails and fishing spots to playgrounds, splash pads, and disc golf courses.”
Despite the delay, residents can still make summer plans to enjoy the county parks by reserving picnic shelters online at www.niagaracounty.com/parks. However, many dates are already fully booked, indicating a high level of interest and anticipation for outdoor activities this summer.
Niagara County’s initiative to open its parks aligns with the Memorial Day spirit, offering opportunities for families and individuals to gather, relax, and engage in recreational pursuits while enjoying the natural beauty of the region. With diverse offerings and ongoing improvements, the county’s parks remain a cherished resource for the community.
