(WNY News Now) – Chautauqua Lake, NY – A boating accident on Chautauqua Lake left one person injured after two newly certified operators collided near Prendergast Point. The incident, occurring at 2:15 PM, involved Daniel I. Miller and Andrew R. Wengerd, both 20-year-old residents of Panama, NY.

Miller and Wengerd were operating personal watercrafts, circling each other at moderate speed, when they lost visual contact. Miller’s vessel struck Wengerd’s broadside, causing extensive hull damage. Wengerd sustained a laceration to his foot but declined medical assistance, opting for self-care with the help of friends and deputies at the scene.

Both young men had recently obtained their Boater Safety Certificates and were unfamiliar with their newly purchased watercrafts, which contributed to the accident. No charges or summonses were issued.
