(WNY News Now) – Chautauqua County, NY – A vehicle pursuit spanning several towns in Chautauqua County culminated in the arrest of a 26-year-old resident of Dunkirk, NY, on charges including drug possession and impaired driving.
Chautauqua County law enforcement’s attempt to execute a routine traffic stop on South Roberts Rd. in the Town of Sheridan took a dramatic turn on June 3, 2024. Philip A. Decker, at the wheel of the vehicle in question, allegedly failed to comply and initiated a high-speed chase.
The pursuit wound its way through the Town of Sheridan, Arkwright, and eventually ended on Spoden Rd. in the Town of Pomfret. Decker, the operator of the vehicle, was promptly identified and taken into custody.
Subsequent investigation revealed troubling findings. Decker was allegedly operating his vehicle impaired by drugs, according to authorities. A search of his vehicle yielded 19 grams of Methamphetamine, a small quantity of Cocaine, and a brass knuckle knife.
Decker now faces a litany of charges, including Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree.
After being arraigned at CAP, Decker was released on his own recognizance.
