Jasmine M. Craig, a 31-year-old resident of Buffalo, was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison by Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case. This sentencing follows Craig’s conviction for the second-degree murder of Lameshea Sanders, aged 30, in Buffalo’s LaSalle neighborhood.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday, August 22, 2022, at around 12:35 a.m. Craig fatally shot Sanders in the head, leaving her to die in the street outside her home on Berkshire Avenue, near Parkridge Avenue. The swift response and thorough investigation by the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad were instrumental in bringing the case to justice.

Following a meticulous four-day, non-jury trial in January 2024, Judge Case found Craig guilty of the sole charge of second-degree murder, a Class “A-I” felony. Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane, who announced the sentencing, commended the efforts of the prosecution team and the Buffalo Police Department for their dedicated work on this case.

Chief Patrick B. Shanahan of the Felony Trials Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Abbi L. Fuhrken of the Justice Courts Bureau prosecuted the case.
