A coordinated effort by multiple law enforcement agencies led to the swift apprehension of a bank robbery suspect who targeted multiple banks across state lines.
On the morning of June 6th, 2024, a series of bank robberies rocked the communities of Olean, Portville, and a neighboring town in Pennsylvania. The suspect, identified as Edwin J. McPeak Jr., 39, of Olean, NY, began his crime spree in Olean at approximately 9:00 am, before targeting a bank in the Village of Portville at around 9:30 am. His spree continued into Pennsylvania, where he committed another robbery.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Olean Police Department, New York State Police, Portville Police Department, and Pennsylvania State Police, launched an immediate and coordinated response. The suspect was spotted by Pennsylvania authorities shortly after his final heist and was taken into custody without incident.
McPeak now faces numerous felony charges and is being held in McKean County Jail on a $1 million bail. The investigation remains active, and additional charges are anticipated in New York State.
