(WNY News Now) – New York – In a bold Independence Day statement, Governor Kathy Hochul challenges the notion that any elected official is above the law following a controversial Supreme Court decision.

On July 4, New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued a powerful statement in response to a recent Supreme Court ruling that grants presidents immunity for official acts while leaving the definition of unofficial acts ambiguous. This decision has sparked significant debate about the boundaries of presidential power and accountability.

“In 1776, four New Yorkers joined the Second Continental Congress to declare America’s independence and change the course of history. They rejected governance by a monarch with absolute power and instead crafted a democracy that aims to protect all of our inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. More than two centuries later the responsibility to protect this democracy now rests on our shoulders. As we gather with family and friends to celebrate America’s independence, we cannot take this democracy for granted. Let us recommit ourselves on this Independence Day to fight for those American ideals and for a more perfect union.”

  1. If it was a democrat President ,she would be singing a different tune.

  2. Who cares, she shouldn’t be there anyway. Can you say “Corrupt”?

  3. If it were a Democratic president he or she wouldn’t be in this situation.

  4. SCOTUS take action without a bases of fact, which is the foundation lacking in their presidential immunity ruling is unstable. It is our work to restore, replace, and repair the very fabric of our democracy that has been assaulted leaving its citizens defenseless.

  5. I doubt the Gov read the decision. I don’t think she would understand it anyway. NY is finished. If you READ the decision a reasonably intelligent person would see what the details are and agree or disagree with provisions, not just a blanket “It’s no good.”

What she fails to realize, is that Biden will also be eligible to take advantage of this ruling.

  7. New York abstained on the vote – check you statements some of us know what true history is and what’s bs.

  8. When the Gouverneur says “protect all inalienable rights”, does she include the second ammendment? Furthermore, if presidents didn’t have immunity, there would be a lot of manslaughter cases involving presidents during the Indian wars, for which the statutes of limitation are forever. Then that would trigger wrongful death lawsuits and reparations.

Nobody should be above the law – be it a Democrat or a Republican. There has to be some sort of control or rules of leadership that should apply to anyone in an official capacity.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one

  11. Odd coming from a Gov that supported mandatory vax, and supported law enforcement surveilling private property looking for Thanksgiving gatherings (thankfully there were some local Sheriffs that rebuffed this), not to mention her non-belief in the 2nd Amendment.
