(WNY News Now) – Machias – A Virginia resident was arrested for impaired driving during a late-night traffic stop on Route 16 in Machias, New York.
On July 3, 2024, at approximately 11:51 PM, Amir A. Habibi, 35, of Ashburn, Virginia, was taken into custody following a traffic stop on Route 16 in Machias. According to Sheriff Timothy S. Whitcomb, Habibi was found to be driving while his ability was impaired by alcohol.
The arrest occurred after law enforcement officers observed Habibi’s erratic driving. During the stop, an investigation alleged that Habibi was under the influence of alcohol. He was subsequently transported to the New York State Police Machias Barracks for processing.
Habibi was issued uniform traffic tickets for several violations, including NYS VTL 1192-1 (Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol), 1180-D (Speeding), and 1128-A (Failure to Keep Right). He was processed and released, pending his appearance in the Town of Machias Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
