(WNY News Now) – MAYVILLE, N.Y. – The Chautauqua County Health Department (CCHD) has announced a series of free rabies vaccination clinics, sponsored by the Town of Ellington and the CCHD. The upcoming clinic, open to all dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets aged three months and older, will take place without the need for pre-registration.

Clinic Details:

  • Date: Thursday, August 22nd
  • Time: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Location: Town of Ellington Highway Garage, 681 East Main St., Kennedy, NY 14747

At the clinic, pet owners are required to stay in their vehicles with their pets, following an established traffic pattern on-site. Previous rabies vaccination records for each pet must be brought to ensure proper and effective vaccination. All dogs must be on a leash, and cats must be in individual carriers.

Rabies is a severe disease affecting warm-blooded animals, including raccoons, bats, skunks, and foxes, and can be transmitted to humans through bites, scratches, or open cuts. New York State Public Health Law mandates rabies vaccinations for all dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets over four months old.
