(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, N.Y. — Community Access Services (CAS), an affiliate of Evergreen Health, is hosting its annual backpack giveaway and back-to-school community fair on Friday, August 2, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3297 Bailey Avenue. This yearly event aims to ensure that students are equipped with the necessary school supplies for a successful academic year.
The event, co-sponsored by Molina Healthcare, promises a fun-filled day for families with kid-friendly activities such as an obstacle course, a video game truck, community resources, information tables, free food, music by DJ Tru Journey, and rapid HIV testing for adults. The backpack giveaway operates on a first-come, first-served basis, requiring the child to be present to receive a backpack filled with pens, pencils, paper, crayons, markers, a ruler, and scissors.
“The 2024-2025 school year is quickly approaching, and we look forward to the backpack giveaway each year to ensure students have access to necessary supplies for a successful return to the classroom,” said Kim Brown, executive director of Community Access Services. “We are proud to support the community by connecting families to a wide range of programs and services.”
Community Access Services is dedicated to empowering communities of color in Buffalo by addressing healthcare disparities and social determinants of health. To expand accessible, quality healthcare to more people in the community, CAS and Evergreen Health are partnering to bring a new healthcare facility to the corners of Kensington and Bailey Avenues.
