(WNY News Now) – Ellery – A 71-year-old Pittsburgh man faces serious charges after driving the wrong way on Interstate 86, narrowly avoiding a collision with law enforcement.

On the night of August 2nd, 2024, at approximately 10:53 PM, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies encountered a dangerous situation on Interstate 86 in the Town of Ellery. Deputies observed a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lane, nearly colliding with their patrol car. The vehicle, driven by 71-year-old Voris M. Posset of Pittsburgh, PA, continued to travel in the wrong direction.

With the assistance of the New York State Police and Ellicott Police Department, deputies successfully stopped the vehicle. During the investigation, it was discovered that Posset was in unlawful possession of three loaded firearms. Consequently, Posset was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and one count of reckless endangerment in the second degree.

Posset was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail and is scheduled for arraignment in the Centralized Arraignment Program of the Town of Ellery. As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
