(WNY News Now) – Gerry – A 69-year-old Jamestown man was charged with Criminal Mischief after allegedly digging up the Town of Gerry’s time capsule without permission, causing significant damage.

On August 3, 2024, deputies responded to a report of unauthorized excavation in the Town of Gerry. Upon arrival, they discovered 69-year-old Dennis R. Torrey from Jamestown had dug up the town’s time capsule, causing damage to the concrete encasing it.

Torrey was promptly charged with Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree. He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Gerry Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
