(WNY News Now) – Mayville, NY – The Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services is seeking compassionate individuals to become foster parents. An orientation event is scheduled for August 19, 2024, at Lakeside Park’s Green Pavilion in Mayville.
This in-person session, running from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, offers an opportunity to learn about fostering in Chautauqua County. Community members interested in working with children and supporting families are encouraged to attend. No pre-registration is required.
“Foster parents play a vital role in providing stability and care for children during some of the most challenging times in their lives,” said Audra Moeller, Senior Caseworker for the Home Finding Team. “We are committed to supporting our foster families and ensuring they have the resources and information needed to make a positive impact in the lives of children.”
The event will cover foster care and adoption programs, requirements for becoming a foster parent, and the support available to foster families. Department staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide detailed information.
Foster care services in Chautauqua County offer temporary, safe, and nurturing homes for children unable to stay with their families due to various issues, including abuse and neglect. Children in foster care range from infancy to 18 years old and may have special needs. Foster parents provide essential care and stability, helping these children during difficult times.
