Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Pursues Reckless Driver in Irving, NY
(WNY News Now) – On August 5, 2024, at approximately 9:30 AM, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and illegally passing other cars on Rt 20 in the Town of Sheridan. Deputies quickly located the vehicle in Silver Creek, NY, and attempted to stop the driver for multiple traffic violations.
The driver, identified as 33-year-old Yubislando Rivas-Rivas from Ames, IA, refused to comply, leading deputies on a brief high-speed pursuit on Rt 5&20 in Irving, NY. The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons, but Rivas-Rivas was later apprehended by the Town of Hamburg Police Department.
Rivas-Rivas faces charges including Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree, Reckless Driving, Speeding, Unsafe Lane Changes, Improper Passing, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, and Using Improper Plates. He was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Hanover Town Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
