(WNY News Now) – Olean, NY – A long-overdue “welcome home” was delivered yesterday as Congressman Nick Langworthy led a heartfelt ceremony honoring 75 Vietnam veterans from Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties.
A solemn yet proud gathering took place at the Jamestown Community College Cutco Theater, where 75 Vietnam-era veterans were honored in a special 50th Anniversary Pinning Ceremony. Hosted by Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) in partnership with the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, the event aimed to recognize the service and sacrifice of local veterans who served during a divisive chapter in American history.
“It was my honor to host a pinning ceremony to thank our brave Vietnam-era veterans from Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties for their service and sacrifice,” said Congressman Langworthy. “Thank you to all who came out to give these heroes the ‘welcome home’ they deserve. Their patriotism and dedication to our nation are a powerful reminder of the courage it takes to defend our freedoms and a model for future generations.”
The Congressman was joined in honoring these veterans by local supporters and local officials, including New York State Senator George Borello, Assemblyman Joe Giglio, and City of Olean Mayor Bill Aiello, as well as Allegany County Clerk Rob Christman as emcee.
The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act established the U.S. Vietnam War Commemoration to honor living U.S. veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of November 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, regardless of where they were stationed.
