(WNY News Now) – Syracuse – In a shocking turn of events, Syracuse police have arrested a 13-year-old male in connection with the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Matthew Freeman on South Salina Street.
A 13-year-old male has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon following an ongoing investigation into the homicide that occurred late Tuesday night on South Salina Street. The incident took place around 11:59 p.m. on August 13th, when Syracuse police officers responded to reports of a shooting.
Before officers arrived at the scene, the victim, identified as 25-year-old Matthew Freeman, was transported by a private vehicle to St. Joseph’s Hospital, suffering from gunshot wounds to the abdomen and shoulder. Despite receiving emergency medical care, Freeman tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The young suspect has been charged under Penal Law 125.25 with Murder in the 2nd Degree and under Penal Law 265.03 with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree. As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
