(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — Robert Green, 34, of Buffalo, has been arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm. These charges could result in a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, with the possibility of life imprisonment and a $10 million fine.
The criminal complaint, handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Donna M. Duncan, outlines events from January 23, 2024, when Green was seen by law enforcement in Salamanca, NY, engaging in suspected drug distribution activities. Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop after observing multiple infractions. Green, appearing impaired with glassy eyes and the smell of marijuana in the air, fled the scene on foot but was captured shortly after. A search of the area uncovered several bags containing suspected methamphetamine, crack cocaine, fentanyl, and hydrocodone.
Further investigation on April 5, 2024, led Cheektowaga Police to a Kensington Avenue apartment, where they discovered five loaded handguns, a rifle, and various bags of narcotics, including methamphetamine and cocaine, indicative of a drug processing operation. DNA evidence linked Green to one of the firearms, which is particularly significant given his felony convictions in 2007 and 2015 that legally prohibit him from possessing firearms.
Green has since appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy and is being held pending a detention hearing scheduled for August 20, 2024.
The charges against Green stem from a collaborative investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cheektowaga Police Department.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
