(WNY News Now) – Olean, N.Y. – The City of Olean’s firefighters are set to benefit from a significant federal grant aimed at improving their safety and effectiveness on the job.

Congressman Nick Langworthy, who represents New York’s 23rd Congressional District, responded to Olean securing this grant. He emphasized the importance of supporting first responders, stating, “Our Olean firefighters play an indispensable role in public safety, risking their lives for their neighbors on a daily basis,” said Congressman Langworthy. “This funding will enable them to obtain equipment and training that will improve response times while giving them more safety on the job. I’m proud to advocate for this funding that directly supports our first responders.”

Earlier this year, Congressman Langworthy hosted a virtual seminar with FEMA officials to guide local fire departments through the AFG application process. The AFG program is designed to enhance the safety and readiness of fire departments nationwide by providing funding for essential equipment, protective gear, and training.
