(WNY News Now) – Ellicott – An 18-year-old from Ashville faces charges following an alleged shoplifting incident at a Wegmans store in the Town of Ellicott.

On August 20, 2024, at approximately 8:44 p.m., the Town of Ellicott Police Department responded to a report of shoplifting at Wegmans. Upon arrival, officers detained Andre M. Guzda, an 18-year-old resident of Ashville, who is accused of stealing $772.16 worth of merchandise from the store.

Guzda was subsequently charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor under New York law. After being issued an appearance ticket, he was released from police custody. Guzda is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ellicott Court at a later date to address the charge. As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
