(WNY News Now) – Chautauqua – A routine traffic stop on Rt. 430 led to the arrest of a Chautauqua man for driving while impaired by drugs.

On the evening of August 23, 2024, around 8:54 PM, deputies from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on Route 430 in the Town of Chautauqua. The driver, identified as 48-year-old Anthony L. Ward, was found to be speeding in a 55 MPH zone and littering on the highway.

Upon further investigation, deputies determined that Ward was driving while his ability was impaired by drugs. Following his arrest, Ward was charged with speeding, littering on the highway, and driving while ability impaired by drugs (DWAI). He was later released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Chautauqua Court at a future date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
