(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, N.Y. – Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport will receive a significant boost with a $424,800 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), marking a vital step toward improving airport safety and infrastructure.

The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded Chautauqua County $424,800 as part of the FY24 Airport Improvement Program (AIP) to upgrade the Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport. The grant will support phase 1 of a crucial project focusing on reconstructing the aging lighting and signage system on Runway 13/31, which has reached the end of its operational life. Additionally, the funds will be used to reinforce the structural integrity of the 4,075-foot runway, aiming to minimize the risk of foreign object debris that could impact aircraft safety.

“The Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport is a key asset for our community, ensuring reliable transportation and supporting local businesses,” said Congressman Langworthy. “This grant will provide much-needed upgrades to the airport’s infrastructure, enhancing safety and efficiency for all who rely on it.”

This grant is a vital investment in the airport’s infrastructure, ensuring that it continues to meet the needs of the community and the broader aviation industry. The improvements will also help maintain the airport’s status within the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS), a key factor in securing federal support for public-use airports across the country.

The AIP program provides essential funding for public agencies involved in airport planning and development, and this grant underscores the importance of maintaining up-to-date facilities in regional airports like Chautauqua County-Jamestown.
