(WNY News Now) – Newfane, NY – In the early hours of Sunday, September 1st, 2024, Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 44-year-old Kristi L. McGrew of Newfane for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, a felony charge, after a traffic stop on Coomer Road. The incident began around 12:08 AM when the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office received a traffic complaint in the Town of Newfane. Responding to the call, Deputy W. Strehlow located the reported vehicle in the 3700 block of Coomer Road.

Upon observing several traffic violations, Deputy Strehlow initiated a stop. During the investigation, Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, leading to McGrew’s arrest. She now faces multiple charges, including Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a misdemeanor, as a 15-year-old passenger was in the vehicle at the time. Other charges include Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle and several additional Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

McGrew was transported to the Niagara County Correctional Facility, where she awaits Centralized Arraignment. Fortunately, the child was unharmed and was released to the custody of a parent who arrived at the scene. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
