(WNY News Now) – Dunkirk – A routine parole check turned into a significant drug bust, leading to the arrest of two Dunkirk men for felony narcotics charges.
On September 9, 2024, a parole check at 111 E. 2nd St., Upper Apartment in Dunkirk, NY, escalated into a narcotics investigation that resulted in the arrest of two individuals. Christian A. Horta-Romero, 26, and Onix Lopez-Ortiz, 45, both of Dunkirk, face multiple drug-related felony charges.
Dunkirk Police Department and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Investigators were called to assist parole officers after narcotics were discovered at the residence. Following the initial findings, authorities secured a search warrant from the City of Dunkirk Court. The search yielded 4.85 oz of cocaine, 11.38 grams of crack cocaine, .61 grams of fentanyl, as well as drug paraphernalia including scales, packaging materials, and $2,788 in cash.

Both Horta-Romero and Lopez-Ortiz were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd and 3rd degrees, as well as Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd degree. They were transported to the Dunkirk Police Department for arraignment in Dunkirk City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
