(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, N.Y. – Jamestown police are investigating a tragic shooting on Newland Ave. that left a 68-year-old resident dead.

On September 10, 2024, at approximately 8:40 PM, Jamestown Police responded to a shooting incident at Newland Ave. and Forest Ave. Officers discovered Doug Howie, a 68-year-old resident, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders from the Jamestown Fire Department and Alstar Ambulance Service arrived shortly after, providing medical assistance.

Mr. Howie was initially transported to UPMC Chautauqua before being airlifted to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Jamestown Police Department is actively investigating the incident as a homicide and has urged anyone with information to contact the Jamestown Command Desk at 716-483-7537 or leave anonymous tips on the confidential tip line at 716-483-7722.

As the investigation continues, authorities are appealing for community assistance in shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
