(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, N.Y. — In celebration of the Worldwide Day of Play on Saturday, September 28, the Audubon Community Nature Center (ACNC) invites families to enjoy a day of free admission and outdoor fun from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The event encourages families to explore Audubon’s extensive nature trails, indoor and outdoor play areas, and interactive exhibits, all designed to connect children with the natural world. ACNC’s Green Play Area, specifically created for children aged 2–6, features a mud kitchen, water wall, and loose parts, offering a hands-on learning environment in nature. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., no reservations are required, and a volunteer will be on hand to assist, though children must be supervised by an adult.
ACNC recognizes the importance of unstructured outdoor play for children’s physical and mental development, fostering an understanding and appreciation for nature. Adults and kids alike can explore the secure Green Play Area, which provides opportunities for creativity, discovery, and a deeper connection with the environment.
The Nature Center building, open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays, features live animal exhibits, interactive displays, and a native tree arboretum. Highlights include the Hellbender exhibit and the live birds of prey enclosure. While admission is always free for Nature Center members and SNAP/EBT cardholders, this Saturday, all visitors are welcomed without charge.
The Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, just east of Route 62, between Jamestown, N.Y., and Warren, Pa. The 600-acre nature preserve offers over five miles of trails, accessible from dawn until dusk every day, where visitors can hike and observe local wildlife.
