(WNY News Now) – Jamestown – Two young children were found living in deplorable conditions as police arrested a Jamestown man on charges of child endangerment and drug possession.
On October 1, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Jamestown Police officers from the 1st Platoon responded to a call on the city’s westside regarding a disorderly person. Upon arrival, officers encountered 25-year-old Jamestown resident Austin Wynn, who denied any disturbance at the scene. However, further investigation revealed a far more troubling situation.
Inside the residence, police discovered two children, aged four and one, sleeping on a mattress covered in trash and insects. The apartment was in deplorable condition, lacking food and littered with drug paraphernalia. Officers immediately recognized the residence as unfit for human habitation, particularly for children.
The Department of Development assessed the property and deemed it unsafe. Police also found methamphetamine in Wynn’s sweatshirt pocket, leading to additional charges.
Wynn was arrested and charged with two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree. He was transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The children have been placed in the custody of Child Protective Services (CPS), who are working to establish a safety plan for their well-being.
