(WNY News Now) – A New York man was arrested in Newfane on multiple bench warrants issued by the Cattaraugus County Court, prompting his immediate remand to jail without bail.
Newfane, N.Y. – On the morning of October 18, 2024, at approximately 9:17 a.m., deputies from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Richard L. Knapp, age 35, at a residence on William Street in Newfane, New York. Knapp, who resides in Bellast, New York, had active bench warrants issued by the Cattaraugus County Court.
According to Sheriff Eric A. Butler, Knapp was arrested without incident and transported to the Cattaraugus County Jail. He is being held there as he awaits his upcoming court appearance in Cattaraugus County. The warrants were issued under New York State Penal Law section 530.70(3), related to violations of court orders. Knapp’s case will be heard by Judge Ploetz in Cattaraugus County Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
