(WNY News Now) – WNY United Against Drug & Alcohol Abuse, Inc. is excited to announce the continuation of its annual Healthy Choices Art and Poetry Contest, inviting young minds to express their creativity and commitment to healthy living.
BUFFALO, NY — WNY United Against Drug & Alcohol Abuse, Inc. (www.wnyunited.org), a community-based prevention agency announced that the annual art and poetry contest will continue.
WNY United has been hosting the Healthy Choices Art and Poetry contest since 2009. Artists and poets in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to participate in the contest by creating original works of art that demonstrate their healthy choices instead of drugs or alcohol. This year the theme is “Healthy Choices Make the Best Me.” The contest is made possible through a generous sponsorship from Rupp Baase LLC. Get the full contest information on the website.
The winning entries can be viewed in person with the Drive Safe Tree at the Fairgrounds Festival of Lights during the Full Experience Nights, as well as on the WNY United website, our social media platforms, and in our newsletter. You can enter the contest online through our website.
December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month. WNY United has partnered with the Erie County Agricultural Society, producers of the Fairgrounds Festival of Lights to showcase the Drive Safe Tree and the winning art and poetry entries at the event. In the Winter Wonderland Workshop stands the 10 foot tall Drive Safe Tree which is decorated with hundreds of ornaments created by local students and festival goers. Each ornament represents a child’s wish that adults refrain from driving while impaired by alcohol, drugs or distracted driving this holiday season.
