(WNY News Now) – A routine traffic stop on Route 20 in Sheridan uncovered an impaired driver.
On the evening of November 27, 2024, at approximately 9:45 PM, deputies from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle committing multiple traffic violations on Route 20 in the Town of Sheridan. The driver, identified as 35-year-old Andrew W. Powers of Woodward Avenue in Buffalo, was pulled over for speeding and failure to keep right.
Upon further investigation, deputies determined that Powers was driving while impaired by the combined influence of alcohol and drugs. He was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office for processing.
After being charged with Speeding in Zone, Failure to Keep Right, and Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI) by the combined influence of alcohol and/or drugs, Powers was released with traffic tickets. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Sheridan Court at a later date to answer the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
