(WNY News Now) – A 48-year-old Syracuse man faces charges after a deadly hit-and-run accident on Burnet Avenue, which claimed the life of 60-year-old Jill Barth.
Syracuse, NY – The victim of a tragic hit-and-run accident on Burnet Avenue has been identified as Jill Barth, a 60-year-old woman from Onondaga County, New York. The incident occurred early on Sunday, November 24, 2024, when Barth was struck by a vehicle while walking along the 1400 block of Burnet Avenue.
Syracuse Police officers responded to the scene at approximately 12:05 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Barth, who had suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle involved in the collision fled before authorities could respond.
After a detailed investigation, Syracuse Police identified the suspect as 48-year-old John Adamy, a resident of Syracuse. Adamy has been charged under New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, Section 600 (2)(a), for Leaving the Scene of an Incident Resulting in Death.
Adamy was apprehended and is currently held at the Onondaga County Justice Center, where he remains in custody. The investigation, being handled by the Syracuse Police Traffic Section, is ongoing. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
