(WNY News Now) – Two Lakewood residents face petit larceny charges after attempting to steal merchandise from a local Runnings store in Ellicott.

Lakewood, N.Y. – On November 26, 2024, the Town of Ellicott Police arrested Andre M. Guzda, 18, and Braxton M. Achterberg, 27, both of Lakewood, on charges of petit larceny. The incident took place at approximately 7:00 p.m. at the Runnings store, located at 720 Fairmount Avenue in Ellicott.

According to police reports, Guzda and Achterberg were seen bringing store merchandise into the men’s restroom. Once inside, they allegedly concealed the items within Guzda’s coat, intending to steal them. The store’s staff notified authorities, and Ellicott police responded promptly to the scene.

The two suspects were arrested and issued appearance tickets. They are scheduled to appear in Town of Ellicott court at a later date to answer to the charge. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
