(WNY News Now) – A traffic stop on Cole Road in Ashford led to the arrest of David L. Smith, 51, who was wanted on a bench warrant out of Cattaraugus County Court.
On the afternoon of November 22, 2024, David L. Smith, a 51-year-old resident of Freedom, NY, was arrested during a routine traffic stop on Cole Road in the Town of Ashford. Sheriff Eric A. Butler reported that the arrest was made in connection with an outstanding bench warrant issued from Cattaraugus County Court.
At approximately 3:45 PM, law enforcement officers confirmed Smith’s identity during the stop and took him into custody without incident. Smith, who had been sought by authorities for the bench warrant, was promptly removed from his vehicle and placed under arrest.
Smith was transported to the Cattaraugus County Jail, where he is being held pending his return to court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
