(WNY News Now) – Brooklyn, NY — A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with an October crash that claimed the life of an Uber driver on the Belt Parkway, police announced Tuesday.
Fitzroy Moore faces charges of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and speeding for his role in the collision that killed Rakibul Hasan, 24. Hasan, an Uber driver, was on his way home when the tragedy struck.
The incident unfolded near the Flatbush Avenue exit in Plumb Beach. Authorities say Moore’s BMW sedan rear-ended Hasan’s Toyota Prius, propelling it across the highway median. A Honda CR-V traveling in the opposite direction then struck Hasan’s vehicle in a violent collision.
Emergency responders rushed Hasan to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, but he succumbed to his injuries. Moore and a 35-year-old female passenger remained at the scene of the crash, according to police reports.
Moore is awaiting arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court.
