(WNY News Now) – A devastating early morning fire on Christmas Day has left a Brocton community mourning the loss of a resident as investigators seek answers.

BROCTON, NY — In the early hours of December 25, tragedy unfolded at 94 Old Mill Road in the Village of Brocton. At approximately 5:08 a.m., the Brocton Fire Department, with assistance from neighboring departments, responded to a residential structure fire that engulfed the home.

Fire crews worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames. Once the fire was under control, the Brocton Fire Chief requested the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team to determine the fire’s origin and cause.

According to officials, the fire began in the ceiling area of the basement. Sadly, during the post-fire assessment, responders discovered the body of a male occupant inside the residence. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the fire. Community members are urged to stay vigilant about fire safety, especially during the winter months when heating systems and electrical usage are at their peak.
