(WNY News Now) – A sudden stop to avoid a dog crossing the road led to a rear-end collision in Cold Spring, NY, involving two vehicles on December 26, 2024.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash on W. Perimeter Road in Cold Spring, NY, at approximately 5:10 PM on Thursday.

According to the Sheriff’s report, a 2019 Mitsubishi hatchback was traveling on W. Perimeter Road when the vehicle was forced to brake abruptly to avoid a dog in the roadway. Following closely behind was a 2014 Mazda sedan, which collided with the rear of the Mitsubishi.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The Mazda driver was issued a Uniform Traffic Ticket for following too closely, a charge frequently associated with rear-end collisions caused by insufficient stopping distances.
