The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has placed a Lakeshore Flood Watch in effect from 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 29, through 1:00 PM on Monday, December 30. This alert warns of potential significant lakeshore flooding along the Lake Erie shoreline in Erie and Chautauqua counties.
Residents and businesses in flood-prone areas, including Route 5 in Hamburg, Buffalo Harbor and Canalside, and Dunkirk Harbor, are urged to take immediate precautions. The eastern end of Lake Erie is expected to experience a rapid rise in water levels due to high wave action, which could result in shoreline erosion and property damage.
