(WNY News Now) – A hunting trip near Buffalo Road in Irving, NY turned tragic on December 28, 2024, as an accidental discharge from a muzzleloader left a 23-year-old man with serious injuries.

On Saturday morning, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a hunting accident on Buffalo Road in the Town of Hanover. Nicholas A. Stalker, 23, of Silver Creek, NY, and Bobby E. Ackerman Jr., 34, of Irving, NY, were deer hunting together when the incident occurred.

According to authorities, Ackerman attempted to descend a steep hill on the property when he lost his footing and fell. During the fall, Ackerman’s muzzleloader discharged, striking Stalker in the leg.

Emergency services, including the Silver Creek Fire Department, swiftly responded to the scene. Stalker was transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries sustained from the gunshot wound.
