(WNY News Now) – A motorist faces multiple charges after allegedly striking an electric pole and fleeing the scene on Route 60 in Fredonia.
On January 3, 2025, at approximately 11:00 AM, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle collision involving a utility pole on Route 60 in the Town of Pomfret. Witnesses reported the driver fled the scene after the incident.
Through their investigation, deputies identified the driver as 31-year-old Nicholas E. Mooney of Fredonia. Authorities allege Mooney was operating the vehicle while his ability was impaired by drugs (DWAI). Further inquiries revealed that Mooney’s license was suspended, categorizing him as an aggravated unlicensed operator in the third degree.
In addition to DWAI, Mooney was charged with moving from a lane unsafely, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
Mooney was arrested, processed, and subsequently released with appearance tickets. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Pomfret Court at a later date.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
