(WNY News Now) – An electrical malfunction within a first-floor wall sparked a residential fire in Lakewood early Wednesday morning, prompting a swift response from local firefighters and investigators.

At approximately 5:50 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, Lakewood Fire Department, supported by mutual aid, responded to a residential fire on Freeman Street in the Village of Lakewood. The blaze was successfully extinguished, averting significant spread or injuries.

Following containment, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Fire Investigation Team was called to the scene. Investigators determined the fire originated within a first-floor wall due to an electrical malfunction.

No injuries were reported in connection to the incident.
