(WNY News Now) – A Dunkirk resident faces multiple charges, including DWI, after a single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning.
DUNKIRK, NY – On Saturday, January 11, 2025, at approximately 1:58 a.m., the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle accident on Route 5 in the Town of Dunkirk.
Upon arrival, deputies identified the driver as 37-year-old Jerrold J. Katrein, a resident of the Town of Dunkirk. Following an investigation, Katrein was found to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated.
Authorities also determined that Katrein had left the scene of the accident, which caused property damage, and was driving at a speed not reasonable or prudent for the conditions.
Katrein was subsequently arrested and charged with the following offenses:
- Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)
- Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident
- Speed Not Reasonable or Prudent
Katrein is scheduled to appear in the Town of Dunkirk Court at a later date to address these charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
