(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — Dewayne Vass, 43, of Buffalo, has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced. The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, with a potential maximum of life imprisonment and a $10,000,000 fine.

The guilty plea, entered before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr., stems from an investigation led by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

On July 12, 2024, law enforcement executed search warrants at a Moselle Avenue residence linked to Vass, his Sunshine Drive home, and his vehicle. The searches yielded large quantities of fentanyl and cocaine, $127,000 in cash, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch, prosecuting the case, credited the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, under Sheriff John Garcia, and the FBI, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia, for their collaborative investigation.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. before Judge Sinatra.
