(WNY News Now) – Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and SPCA are investigating after a dog was found abandoned in a dumpster behind a Wheatfield cafe.

Wheatfield, NY — On January 18, 2025, at approximately 12:44 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff’s Communication Center received a 911 call reporting an abandoned dog in a dumpster behind Nelson’s Cafe on River Road.

Deputies responded promptly and retrieved the dog, which was subsequently placed in the care of SPCA Agent Rinehart.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the dog was abandoned shortly after 2:00 a.m. by the occupant(s) of a dark-colored truck. Authorities are seeking assistance from the public to identify those responsible for this act of cruelty.
