(WNY News Now) – Machias, NY — A routine traffic stop in Machias led to the arrest of Daren M. Reis, 33, of East Concord, on January 19, 2025, at approximately 4:23 AM. Reis, a passenger in the vehicle, initially provided a false name but was later identified as having two active bench warrants.
At the time of the stop on Route 16, officers pulled over the vehicle for vehicle and traffic violations. Reis attempted to mislead authorities by using the name Daren M. Smith. However, a further investigation revealed his true identity and the active warrants for his arrest, both issued by the Cheektowaga Police Department.
Reis was subsequently taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the South Wales Fire Department, where he was officially handed over to Cheektowaga Police Department officers.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
