(WNY News Now) – A structure fire at the Sherman Livestock Barn early Saturday morning left several calves injured after a heat lamp ignited nearby combustibles, according to investigators.

Sherman, NY – On January 25, 2025, at approximately 5:31 a.m., the Sherman Fire Department, alongside multiple mutual aid departments, responded to a structure fire at the Sherman Livestock Barn located at 4151 Route 430 in the Town of Chautauqua.

Upon extinguishing the blaze, the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team was called to the scene to determine the fire’s origin and cause. Investigators concluded that the fire began when a heat lamp came into contact with combustible materials.

The fire resulted in injuries to several calves housed at the barn. Officials have not disclosed the extent of the injuries or the number of animals affected.
