(WNY News Now) – GOWANDA, N.Y. — A 25-year-old man was arrested Sunday after allegedly stealing a vehicle at a local pizzeria, crashing it, and fleeing the scene while intoxicated, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

On February 2, 2025 at 1:51 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at Capozzi’s Pizzeria on Jamestown Street in the Village of Gowanda. Shortly after, 9-1-1 dispatchers received reports of a crash involving a vehicle matching the description of the stolen car on Route 353 in Dayton. The driver had fled the scene before authorities arrived.

Following an investigation, deputies identified Bransin R. John as the suspect. He was located at a nearby residence and taken into custody. Authorities determined John was intoxicated, registering a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .23—nearly three times the legal limit.

John faces multiple charges, including Grand Larceny, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Mischief, and Aggravated DWI, along with other traffic and criminal offenses. He was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Dayton and Persia Courts at a later date.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
