(WNY News Now) – FREEDOM, NY – Two individuals were taken into custody early Monday morning after a traffic stop led to the discovery of suspected crystal methamphetamine and a weapon, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 2:03 a.m. on February 10, deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Krystle L. Gouine, 30, of Springville, on Phillippi Road in the Town of Freedom for multiple traffic violations. During the stop, deputies observed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, leading to a search.

Gouine was found in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and packaging materials. Her passenger, Cody J. Slomba, 31, of Springville, was also found carrying suspected crystal methamphetamine and a switchblade knife.

Both individuals were transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Delevan Substation for processing. Gouine was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations, including operating with a suspended registration, improper plates, and failure to use emergency flashers.

Slomba was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree.

Both were released on appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in Town of Freedom Court at a later date for further proceedings. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
