(WNY News Now) – NEW YORK – New York Attorney General Letitia James issued a statement today following the U.S. Department of Justice’s decision to file a lawsuit against New York over its state laws, including the Green Light law.

“Our state laws, including the Green Light law, protect the rights of all New Yorkers and keep our communities safe,” James stated. “I am prepared to defend our laws, just as I always have.”

The lawsuit, announced by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, challenges the legality of New York’s measures, which include granting driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants and restricting federal access to state motor vehicle records. The DOJ argues that these laws interfere with federal immigration enforcement and public safety efforts.

State officials, including James, maintain that the laws enhance public safety by ensuring that all drivers are licensed and insured, while also protecting residents’ privacy rights.
