(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, NY – A 24-year-old Jamestown man was arrested Monday evening following a domestic dispute that escalated into a dangerous situation involving a weapon, police said.
Officers from the Second Platoon responded to a residence on the Eastside at approximately 5:13 p.m. for an in-progress domestic dispute. Upon arrival, they spoke with the victim and determined that Ronald J. Maund had engaged in a verbal argument that escalated when he allegedly shut off the electricity to the home. The residence was occupied by the victim and three young children, all of whom were present during the incident.
According to police, Maund then threatened the victim with physical harm and menaced them with a sledgehammer in front of the children. When officers attempted to take him into custody, Maund became combative but was swiftly subdued and transported to the Jamestown City Jail.
Maund faces multiple charges, including Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, Menacing in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Tampering in the 2nd Degree, three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Resisting Arrest. He is currently being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
