(WNY News Now) – ROCHESTER, N.Y. — An Elmira man convicted of drug trafficking and firearms offenses has been sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison, authorities announced.

Kavon A. Wilson, 32, was sentenced to 151 months in prison by Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford after being found guilty of possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine and possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. In addition to the prison term, Wilson was ordered to forfeit two firearms and 14 rounds of ammunition.

According to prosecutors, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant on April 2, 2024, at a residence on Erie Street in Elmira. Inside the home, investigators encountered a woman, identified as Wilson’s girlfriend, lying on a couch holding an infant. Two other young children were also present in the residence.

During the search, authorities recovered a loaded handgun concealed under a couch pillow. A second loaded handgun was also seized. Investigators reported finding approximately 1,559 grams of methamphetamine, 124 grams of cocaine, 154 fentanyl pills, and more than $11,500 in cash.

While the search was ongoing, Wilson approached the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Marangola. Officials said the investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Violent Crimes Task Force, along with the New York State Police and the Elmira Police Department.
