(WNY News Now) – POMFRET, N.Y. — A routine traffic stop in the early hours of Sunday led to the arrest of a Dunkirk man on multiple charges, including aggravated driving while intoxicated (DWI).
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle at approximately 1:59 a.m. on February 16, 2025, in the town of Pomfret for an alleged traffic violation. Upon further investigation, the driver, identified as 21-year-old Joseph A. Hernandez Bentley of Dunkirk, was found to be intoxicated.
Bentley was taken to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Pomfret substation for processing. He was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI, failure to wear a seat belt, a license plate violation, and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
Following processing, Bentley was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Pomfret Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
