(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, NY – A routine traffic stop in Jamestown resulted in the arrest of two individuals on drug and weapon charges Thursday night.
On February 20, 2025, at approximately 9:13 p.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s 2nd Platoon conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of W. 6th Street and Cherry Street due to observed traffic infractions. The vehicle’s occupants were identified as Steven M. Lamper, 36, and Deshawna Sparks, 33.
During the investigation, officers discovered that both individuals were in possession of a dagger. Further examination revealed that Lamper was also carrying a small quantity of fentanyl.
As a result, Lamper was charged with:
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree
Sparks was charged with:
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree (due to a prior conviction)
Both suspects were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jamestown City Jail. Lamper was processed and released with an appearance ticket under New York State bail reform laws, while Sparks was held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
